This personal project was actually based on a model originally by Matthew Brewer at Arcadia FX.
I had a lot of fun making this one, but I've got to say (although perhaps I should lie to bolster my ego!), I found it a lot trickier than I thought. When I set out on the image I thought there being so few elements would make it easy to knock over in a couple of hours. How wrong I was!
When you have an image as minimalist as this, every subtle detail screams out at you. With all the dark metals and glass, there is almost no diffuse light and GI in render at all, which means you're really relying on how those reflections read to convey realism and depth. Very tricky indeed.
A good exercise I'm glad I did, I learned a lot from this. Thanks to Matt for getting me started on this one!
Made with 3DS Max, VRay and Photoshop.
